Wassail
My Tennessee family favorite
Wassail will always remind me of cozy, cold weather and good times with family in Tennessee. Every time I visit, I beg my Aunt Kim to make wassail for me! Apparently it’s an old recipe from the Tennessee mountains.
I get so excited when I walk into my Aunt Kim’s house and can instantly tell she made Wassail. People remember the smell of your home! Make sure it’s a good one. Having wassail ready to serve is my favorite way to fill my house with the coziest smell during the holidays. Plus, it’s delicious!
(I just made this for my friends the other weekend. We cozied up around a fire in the backyard and watched the World Series while we made s’mores and drank wassail. The best!)
Ingredients:
2 qt Apple Cider (or apple juice)
2 qt Cranberry Juice
12 oz Pineapple Juice (I buy the canned one in the frozen section!)
1.5 cups of Brown Sugar
6-10 Cinnamon Sticks
3 tbsp of whole cloves
Cranberries and orange slices for garnish
Directions:
Combine everything in a big pot and cook on stove until boiling, then put on low to keep warm.
OR cook all day in crockpot!
The longer this sits, the more flavor it will have! So stick any leftovers in the fridge and serve the next day.
Side Note:
If I don’t want to make wassail to drink, I still love to have spices simmering on the stove all fall and winter.
I use this! This cute little jar also makes an awesome little fall or housewarming gift for a friend. Snag a few to have on hand for the holidays!
